1957 British GP winning Vanwall to appear at Ormskirk Motofest!

The 1957 British GP winning Vanwall is to appear at Ormskirk Motofest on Sunday 27th August!

Motor racing fans are in for a fantastic treat at the Ormskirk Motorfest as a fabulous racing car that won the British Grand Prix in 1957 is coming to the free extravaganza on Sunday 27 August.

That race 60 years ago at Aintree Circuit Club was a historic day as Stirling Moss and Tony Brooks drove the Colin Chapman-designed Vanwall VW5/11 to success, the first time British drivers had won the British Grand Prix in a British-made car, and a big turning point in the growth of the British motor sport industry.

Hall and Hall, who maintain and run the Vanwalls for owners worldwide have confirmed that the VW5/11 is coming to the MotorFest. The famous car now 'lives' in Florida, but is being brought over to the UK for the Goodwood Festival of Speed and Revival meeting in September.

1957 British GP winning Vanwall coming to Southport!

This year marks the 60th anniversary of the famous win by Sir Stirling Moss and Tony Brooks at the British Grand Prix at Aintree, which also had the prestige of being the Grand Prix D'Europe for 1957.

The Vanwall Grand Prix car made motor racing history and was the last of the soon-to-be obsolete front engine Grand Prix cars as it scooped the first ever constructor's World Championship.

With its new 'teardrop' design and guest driver Stirling Moss 'The Boy' as he was affectionately known, the Vanwall drove to victory at a time when the red of Italy dominated Formula 1 racing.

A special celebration event is being held at The Atkinson in Southport, Merseyside on Thursday 13th July to celebrate Sefton's sporting heritage and to fundraise for The Atkinson Development Trust, which works with the collection to help families, schools and the community access the arts.
